The Old House of Hereford

The black and white house of Hereford is actually named "The Old House", it is located in the city center of Hereford.

The house is a well-preserved half-timbered Jacobean building it was built in 1621 as part of Butchers' Row.

In 1816, other buildings on the row started to be demolished, it has been used by butchers, ironmongers, and bankers during its existence.

It is now the only remaining house in the original row, surrounded by more modern buildings.

Since 1929 has been a fascinating museum giving an insight into daily life in Jacobean times. It is furnished in period style and there are interesting pieces in every room. Of particular interest are the wall paintings, beds and baby walkers.

The house is speculated to be haunted and appears on many of the Hereford Ghost walks as a point of interest, However it hasn't bee inhabited within the last 100 years and any spooks may have passed on by this stage but who really knows?

This has been a brief post about The Old House of Hereford.

I hope that you find it interesting, there is further information about that that can be found here on the Wikipedia page about it:  The Old House Hereford
